I am returning to Guangzhou next week (mid-May 2008) for the fourth time in just over a year. We will stay once again at the Golden Bridge Hotel, where we have stayed each time I have been in Guangzhou. On each trip the length of our stay at this hotel has been from 10 days to three weeks, and we have been very happy.

the location of the hotel is a real negative. It is way across town from all the places we needed to be with no useful ammenities nearby. Catching a cab outside the hotel was almost impossible (it sometimes took us 20 minutes to get one). The hotel staff would not call them for you by telephone and there was no hotel system in place help you flag cabs down. Often of an evening on the other side of town, cab drivers would refuse to take you back. Needless to say, this was a very frustraing experience.
Secondly, there were a lot of small issues with the room that contributed to making our stay uncomfortable as time went on. Used coffee cups were often ignored by housekeeping, teabags were not replaced (one night we rang for our teabags and housekeeping said they had run out), complementary water bottles were sometimes not left, towels were on three occasions refolded wet from our previous usage.

Although not as opulent as many of the international chain hotels, The Golden Bridge was a very pleasant place to stay. It provides a clean and quiet haven in what can be a pretty hectic city. The decor is stylish - modern Danish/Swedish would be a good description - with clean lines and unfussy decorations. The housekeeping is of a high standard and we found the concierge extremely helpful and with a good grasp of English. An excellent experience!

Very recommendable hotel. Just paied about 60 Euro for a new renovated Double Room on Executive Floor. Internet Connection free of charge. Breakfast included. Great value for money.
